Team Middle Atlantic
On day three of the Cal Ripken Major 70 World Series, Team Middle Atlantic took away a 1-11 win over Team Iowa at St. Louis Stadium.
After a scoreless two and a half innings, MAR put their first run on the board after a homerun from Mike Kennedy. His team kept up the momentum, scoring an additional two runs before the end of the second inning. After two, MAR was up by three.
In the third inning, both teams were able to play good defense. Each team was able to prevent any runs, making for a scoreless third as they headed to the fourth.
IA scored their first and only run in the fourth. However, they were unable to hold MAR. Austin Francis sent a ball flying into deep left, driving in a run. An additional run followed before IA could get the final out – putting MAR ahead by four runs.
MAR didn’t seem to let their lead get to their heads.
IA’s last at bat came in the fifth and ended with a quick three up, three down.
The game ended with an impressive six runs coming from MAR’s bats. The 10-run rule ended the game an inning early.
