Austin Francis stands alone on the pitchers mound. Francis has one stares down the batter takes a look at his catcher. He knows he’s got the hot hand and right the opposition is powerless against him. He hurls the ball through the air with amazing speed. Another strikeout. That gives him three in a row. He would have six strikeouts in a game that saw his Mid Atlantic team beat a New England squad. Francis simply looked like a destroyer of worlds in the game against New England. He almost single handedly ended New England’s chances to win. Francis himself had 6 strikeouts, he went 2/2 from batting with double and homer as well as 2 runs. He also added 3 RBI’s as if those stats weren’t enough.
New England did not struggle to get on base but they just couldn’t capitalize on enough of their opportunities. For New England Chris Catania was the standout player as he recorded a run, a stolen base, and walk.
Behind Austin Francis Mid Atlantic were able to pull away and have a comfortable lead from the early midpoint to the rest of the game. New England struggles to finish innings down the stretch as they came up empty on numerous occasions. With this loss Mid Atlantic moves on while eliminating New England from the Cal Ripken World Series.
