Team Southwest out of Rattan, OK took to Chicago Field Friday morning, where they took a 4-9 win over Team Kansas out of Liberal, KS.
The first inning ended quickly with no runs for KS and only one run for SWR.
In the top of the second, KS came back to tie it after a homerun slapped over the fence by Trystian Juarez. Following Juarez’s homerun, the team loaded the bases.
With bases loaded, Ryan Thomas hit a grounder right at SWR’s second baseman for his first and only RBI of the game. An error on the field left the bases loaded allowing Miguel Archuleta to hit a sacrifice fly for what would also be his first and only RBI of the game.
The third out soon followed making it a 3-1 game as SWR came to the plate.
SWR was quick to make it a tie ballgame in the second, but they didn’t seem to be satisfied leaving that inning in a tie. SWR soon scored their fourth run making it a 3-4 game at Chicago Field.
However, KS came right back in the third to tie it up once again. Their defense in the bottom of the fourth prevented any runs, and the teams were tied heading into the fourth.
SWR showed their defensive strength in the fourth, and came up to the plate with some hits to put themselves up by four.
Although KS managing to load their bases in the fifth, SWR’s defense kept them from scoring any runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cale Clay hit his third RBI of the game. Clay’s RBI was the final run of the game, and it put his team ahead by five.
Juarez was named Player of the Game for KS for his homerun in the second. Nate Noel was named Player of the Game for SWR due to some key plays he made at third base.
SWR is scheduled to play again 3 p.m Saturday at Boston Park, while KS is scheduled to play at 10 a.m. Sunday on Chicago Field.
